Did you know that research shows that by the age of 13, 53% of American girls are unhappy about their bodies and that by age 17, 78% are dissatisfied? These statics are disturbing the Media is portraying very powerful and sometimes subconscious messages that we are given as women about how we should look and who we should be in our culture.
Well, I am blowing the whistle on the Media and all the misguided women who try and tell us who we are! During my professional travels I have met with many old school friends who live all over the world and have very successful lives. I also learned that we can still sit down and give detailed stories from their past that had brought down their self esteem, from eating lunch in the bathroom when the “popular” kids did not save you a seat at lunch, being laughed at on body issues when your growing into a women, to having one girl turn a whole group of friends on you based on gossip and lies.
Well I am here to tell you, that at the time it did hurt when you were in those situations and I am not going to lie and say it didn’t hurt if you ignored it. But listen Young Ladies, you will get past it and there is a whole world to conquer out there that goes WAY beyond the politics of High School.
I am here as an example and I have so much compassion for young women whose self esteem suffers from the Media, friends and life. I have to do something about it and I am, please support or attend the first ever National Young Women’s Conference, October 24th in Washington DC.
I have surveyed over 100 young women and the conference will focus on their 7 top topics from improving self esteem to peer pressure. The goal is to have each girl walk away with the tools to combat these issues and be inspired by the women speakers who have been through the same experiences. This will end with a mentor reception where young girls can connect with these women and build a relationship that goes far beyond this one day conference.
The Young Women National Conference (www.ywnc.net) will truly change the lives of 200 young women. In order to do this I need your help. I would like the cost of registration to be under $30 per person, and I need to raise the money to pay for the meals and logistics of the program. Please let me know if you, your company or your friends company may be interested in becoming a sponsor.
Also you too as an individual can help by donating the $25 fee for a young woman to attend, just go to the home page and click on donate now through Pay Pal, every little bit will help! This is your opportunity to make a difference in a young girl’s life.
